Next morning, Katherine first went walking through the streets of Dubrovnik with Ralf at dawn and then, one hour later, with me. We bought some Italian things: "pasta" again!
I surprised Katherine with a small gift. When we had been eating at the Ragusa restaurant the evening before, I had taken one of the elegant napkins she had admired.
I now presented it to her as a souvenir. "You're such an elegant man!" She gave me a spontaneous kiss and hug. We walked back to the hotel and went past the hotel gallery. Katherine stopped, she had seen two paintings that she liked. We couldn't go in, so we had to be content with just looking.
After a long walk on the city wall we all went into the sea one last time. As we were taking a shower at the sea's edge I asked Katherine for the shampoo. "It's in my bag!"
"I'm not looking inside a woman's bag!"
"You're a good man!" And she told me about the coarse manners of some of Pablo's colleagues from work who had been insulting her all day long.
On the way back Katherine, Pablo, and I sat on the back seat of the car. I had a small geranium in my hand that Katherine had taken from the hotel. We stopped for a break in Jablanica and ate lamb. When we were back in the car again I handed us all "un bacio Perugina ". On my biglietto, hidden under the chocolate, was written: "You want to know how great my love is? Count the waves."
I was too stunned to speak - I looked into Katherine's eyes.
Just before we reached Sarajevo we saw a fiery red cloud out of the coach! It was as if Pale was burning. After we reached Sarajevo
I took Katherine home in a taxi.
