Emit Bohnenblust did not give up. Katherine's friend, Azure, called me several days later and asked me to lunch at the cafe Mod near my office. Azure and I had became close friends. She asked me carefully about what was happening between Katherine and me. I had thus far not disclosed my misgivings to any of our friends, and I told her that the things were going well. Azure warned me not to be terribly optimistic because Emil continued to send flowers and messages, and Katherine was very confused.
Emit had conjured up something special for her birthday- lie invited her to Rome, where he would dedicate a concert to her. The much-courted Katherine was at her wit's end. What should she do? Should she accept the invitation and fly to Rome?
A painting for Renato
During the Winter Festival, I attended some other events, including an exhibition by the versatile artist and performer. Lisa
CV Connor, of London. Lisa, who has a lively temperament, which matches her remarkable mane of ebony hair, plays the double bass
with the London Mozart Players. In her spare time, she paints musical instruments.
I knew Lisa from times past, meeting her after a concert in London, when she invited me over to see her paintings; but we had lost touch.
She recognised me immediately in the crowd in the gallery: "Renato, it's you! What are you doing in Sarajevo?"
"It's not a good time to tell you what's happening with me. Shall we go for a meal afterwards?" After all that had been happening lately, I was glad to see an old friend again.
"That would be lovely!" Lisa bent her head towards me and I saw again the same warm smile which had captured me three years ago.
Over dinner, Lisa led me to understand that she had fallen in love with me then in London, but had not had the courage to tell me or to write me about it. Today's fortuitous meeting gave her the courage to tell me the truth. It was destiny which had brought us together today. She was extremely happy and promised to give me the picture of a double bass she had painted for me after our last meeting in London.
