Naples, FL

Katarina had been in Florida too, visiting her family, and she was taking a few days away at a small hotel in Naples. Because of last night's tornado, I had only been able to take her in my arms today.

At the entrance to the hotel we came upon a group of elderly ladies. Each of the thirteen wore a red hat, red gloves and red shoes. I asked the woman with the largest hat the reason for their meeting like this.

We are a chapter of an organisation called 'The Red-Hatted Ladies,' which is for women over 50. We only have one goal: Enjoy Life! The organisation was set up by a Californian woman, and its constitution refers to a poem: 'When I grow old... I shall wear a purple, with a red hat which doesn't go...'

What will I be at fifty, what shall I be doing? Will I be healthy? Will I be the father of a child? Will I still be alive at all? Will I still be working in the cultural world? Will I become older than the cultural institutes? Were I only twenty again, all these questions would be different.
